The Reserve Bank of Malawi, the Central Bank of Malawi, was established in Blantyre in July 1964 by an Act passed by the Parliament of Malawi, and started work in June 1965. The establishment of the Central Bank of Malawi replaced the branch of the Federal Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in Malawi. The Federal Bank of Rhodesia and Nyasaland is the central bank of the federation. The federation once included Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Nyasaland (now Malawi), but the federation has disintegrated.
The Republic of Malawi is a landlocked country located in southeastern Africa. Its currency is Malawian Kwacha, code MWK.
